ANTONELLA RUGGIERO with the Arké Quartet (Italy) |
|
SacrarmoniaI n 1989, Antonella Ruggiero decided to retire and lead a ‘normal life’. This remarkable singer from the group Matia Bazar was away from the music scene for several years while she had a child and travelled the world. It was when she was in India that Antonella’s passion for music returned and she was inspired to start singing again. Her first solo album, Libera, was released in 1996, which melds pop music with sounds from the Far East . Since then, Antonella’s career has taken off. She took part in the San Remo Festival in 1998 and 99, and in 2000 her performance with the string quartet Arké signalled the start of a new project that distanced her from pop music and led her towards classical and sacred music. Her new tour, Sacrarmonia, is taking place over two years in theatres and churches, and the album Luna Crescente, Sacrarmonia, was released in 2001. However, Antonella Ruggiero does not limit herself to one style only. She continues to expand her musical research and experience: in 2002 she tackled the songs of the great Broadway musical comedies, and played in the opera Medea at the Theatre de la Fenice in Venice . In 2003 she released a new pop album, and the following year Sacrarmonia, le voyage was her first CD/DVD. Last year Antonella explored the music of Latin America and is currently working on a repertoire of traditional Alpine songs. |
