Since
its inception (the choir in 1984 and
the orchestra in 1987) the Orchestra
and Choir of the Community of Madrid
(ORCAM) has become known for its innovative
performances of both contemporary and
traditional works.

Its
weekly concerts at the National Auditorium
of Music have become a point of reference
for an eclectic public interested in
everything musical. Today, ORCAM is
one of the major touchstones of Spanish
musical life.
ORCAM
is invited to the most prestigious festivals.
They have appeared at well-known venues
such as the Palais de la Música
of Valencia, the Palais des Festivals
in Santander, the Teatro Arriaga in
Bilbao, the Gran Teatro of Cordoba,
the Auditorium Manuel de Falla in Granada,
the Auditorium of Galicia, the Palais
de l’Opéra in Coruña
and the Teatro Real of Madrid where
their concerts are always received with
much enthusiasm.
ORCAM also regularly gives concerts
broadcast by Spanish radio and television
networks. ORCAM has been the resident
orchestra of the Teatro de la Zarzuela
in Madrid since 1998.
Among
many recordings on renowned labels such
as EMI, Decca and Naxos, their most
famous appearances have been with Maria
Bayo and the great tenor Plácido
Domingo.
In
addition to director José Ramon
Encinar and choirmaster Jordi Casas
Bayer, many performers of international
stature are often invited as guests,
in particular Harry Christophers, Eric
Ericson, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Isaac
Karabtchevsky, Robert King, Jan-Latham
Koening, Peter Maag, Lorin Maazel, Paul
McCreesh, Shlomo Mintz, Andrew Parrot,
Krysztof Penderecki and Alberto Zedda.
ORCAM
has also collaborated with soloists
such as Aldo Ciccolini, Plácido
Domingo, Shlomo Mintz, Pascal Rogé,
Hansjörg Schellenberger and Isabelle
van Keulen.
The
orchestra is supported in its endeavours
by the patronage of the Conseil de la
Culture et des Sports of the Community
of Madrid.
